microneedling q&a
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is an aesthetic procedure used mainly on the face in order to treat fine wrinkles, acne scars, aging skin, and large pores. This non-invasive treatment gently exfoliates your skin. After a series of treatments, your complexion can appear smoother, brighter, and more even in color.
The Microneedling procedure that Dr. Dika performs differs from the one that you can do at home with a kit. Dr. Dika's treatment goes a bit deeper into the skin. Still, the procedure is safe for all skin colors. This requires the skin to repair itself, resulting in new collagen formation. The end result is skin that is more toned, firmer, and smoother than it was before the treatment.
What does micro needling do for your skin?
During Microneedling, a topical anesthetic is applied to the skin and a professional grade device is used to cause tiny puncture marks in the skin. This slightly damages the skin, forcing it to produce collagen and elastin, which are healing proteins that take the place of the damaged areas. The resulting healed skin is firmer, smoother, and more youthful in appearance.
What are the side effects of microneedling?
Because Microneedling involves creating small perforations in the skin, it is possible to have excessive bruising, bleeding, or infections of the skin tissue after having the procedure. Dr. Dika will provide her guidance to ensure that such risks are minimized. The risks are greater with pregnancy, after radiation therapy, and if you have open wounds or skin diseases, like eczema or psoriasis.
How long does it take to see results from microneedling?
The results of Microneedling are not immediate. In fact, you can have redness or soreness of the skin for a few days after having the procedure. The skin needs to heal in order to see the effects but this usually happens within a couple of weeks.
How often should you get microneedling?
You can safely repeat the Microneedling procedure every four to six weeks, Dr. Dika will provide guidance on the appropriate time. Three treatments separated by this period of time is recommended initially, with up to six treatments necessary to improve the appearance of scars. Each person responds differently, so you may need fewer or more treatments to have the effect you want to see.
